Values & Vision

I like to call myself a Hoosier Democrat. Some people may call me a moderate Democrat. I believe that we must always err on the side of liberty and protect our Bill of Rights.

What does that mean to you? For one, citizens have a constitutional right to own a gun. To those that dispute that then seek an Amendment to the Constitution. However, the gun industry and individuals who own guns should not have the law protect it from malicious and negligent conduct. We also must remove intrusive laws that infringe on our right to privacy – “Stay out of my bedroom and I will stay out of your boardroom.”

Why You Should Elect Nick Baker

The current administration thrives and encourages our division among neighbors. E pluribus Unum is together every citizen is one nation under God. While we all may have disagreements on certain limited and mostly irrelevant issues, we Hoosiers agree on the issues much more than we disagree.  Let us find our common goals and work together to accomplish our mission and preserve this nation for the generations to come. Democrats deserve to have more than just a name on the general election ballot, they deserve someone who can actually win and follow through with their campaign platform and promises. Nick is the person you want representing you in Indian’s 6th Congressional District.

Work for Regeneration

Thirty trillion dollar Green New Bills will not solve our climate and pollution issues. There is a much simpler and affordable carbon capture method available.  As Gabe Brown’s book Dirt to Soil proves, simply introducing vegetation to otherwise arid land will capture more carbon than any trillion-dollar machine.  We have a duty to protect, preserve, and rehabilitate our land.

We also must continue protecting clean air policies. Big business and corporations should not be able to push through construction of data centers and other buildings without environmental studies. They also should not be able to claim “special use” when land should be rezone like they are doing in Camby County for the data center construction.

My Vision for Indiana & Our Country

Rule of Law

The United States Constitution is the Supreme Law of the Land, not an individual. Our government was uniquely created to ensure that no one person or group overrides the Constitution. We must ensure open access to the Courts and preserve Trial by Jury while protecting the Voting Rights Act and ensure all citizen enjoy equal voting rights and full access to vote no matter race, gender, disability, or income.

Middle & Lower Income Classes Before Billionaires

The current administration and the incumbent to Indiana’s Sixth Congressional District’s “Big Billionaire Bill” is the largest tax cut in history primarily for individuals that need it the least. While they may claim it helps families, it only further increases the economic divide in America ensuring the rich get richer.  It is time Washington goes to work for the American worker not Mark Zuckerberg, Jeff Bezos, Elon Musk, and the rest of the billionaires paying lobbyist and buying tax cuts. I pledge to support every single consumer protection act, not monopolies like Ticketmaster.

Balance the Budget

You cannot live with a deficit, why should the Federal Government be allowed to? It’s time to choose fiscal responsibility and balance the budget and combat national debt. We simply cannot afford to spend more than our internal revenue any longer. And the citizens do not deserve to deal with federal shutdowns because those in office are incapable of fiscal responsibility in a timely manner.

Protect Our Children, Parks, & Public Lands

After families, particularly those throughout Franklin County, suffered cancers from drinking contaminated water, billionaire Jefferson Shreve had the audacity to introduce legislation making it easier to poison Hoosier soil.  Stop letting him pollute your district. I will stand and fight for the Clean Water Act and Clean Air Act. I also believe that we need to protect our National Parks and other public lands. That means no drilling or selling off parcels to the highest bidder.

Healthcare

There are countless problems with our healthcare system. First, as all too many know, medical debt is the number one cause of bankruptcy in the United States. Furthermore, the federal budget is significantly impacted by our current healthcare system and subsidies. Premiums continue to skyrocket impacting indivduals and small buinesses. Right now, 51 cents of every healthcare dollar goes to an administrator and an insurance company, not to a doctor, a nurse, or any actual treatment.  We must stop the grift and stop propping up a broken system.

While universal healthcare would be the dream, it may not be immediately achievable. We must continue to encourage competition like fellow Indiana University Alumni Mark Cuban is doing in the pharmaceutical industry. We must also cut out the middlemen and tear down the monopolies including insurance giants like United Healthcare have so that we can direct more healthcare dollars to our local and rural hospitals. The providers of the actual care should be the benefactors of American tax dollars not insurance companies. We must also control the exuberant and often wholly unreasonable ranges in pricing. I will tirelessly work to restore and expand Medicare and Medicaid particularly for those are being hurt by the current incumbent’s big billionaire bill.

Strong Defense

We must not only support, but also strengthen our service members and stand behind our veterans. I am the only attorney in the nation to take the worst environmental catastrophe in American History – Camp LeJeune – to the the United States Supreme Court. I will continue to fight this fight while in Congress to ensure it never happens again.

Protect and Support the American Farmer

The American Farmer is the backbone of our nation. We must not introduce policy that cripples their markets or diminishes our soils. Government subsidies must go first to the American Farmer and not to agricultural companies with checkered pasts. The government should have no part in loosening EPA regulations on or subsidizing agricultural inputs – fertilizers, pesticides, and herbicides.

Encourage Personal Responsibility

Too many Americans fail to take responsibility for their actions or inaction. We have people who rely on the various assistance programs for decades. We need more programs that move people from welfare to work and provide assistance to those who truly need it only as long as they do. Incentives can help Americans lose weight, which would reduce many health related issues, help increase worker productivity, and American’s lifespan.
